| By creating successful partnerships with government, civil society, and community, ruwwad has been able to position itself within a unique community empowerment model that is able to respond to Jabal Natheef community’s needs. Since 2006 ruwwad has initiated a dialogue with Jabal Natheef, active NGOs, community members, and schools to identify the urgent needs of youth, children, and families and to help provide essential services in the areas of health, youth education, employment, and child cultural recreation. Samar Dudin Program Staff Administration Staff Special Projects | | ruwwad has offered 250 youth scholarships from Mosa’ab Khourma Youth Education Fund, engaged 70 daily children visitors ages 6-12 year olds in the Shams Al Jabal Library and Creative workshop, “Shababeek.” We’ve been able to support 10 families to live in healthy homes, created partnerships to facilitate services to the whole community through ruwwad health clinic in partnership with the Ministry of Health, helped identify and implement a need for a police station in the community, and implemented a post office in ruwwad’s community building. In addition to these services, Ali Zo’bi legal aid community fund offers legal aid to all community members free of charge. As we look forward, ruwwad is positioned to evolve into a citizen-led, community-organizing model. This model is led by the community as they negotiate their interests and needs to transform their own realities; a model that values experimentation, innovation, and reflection; a model that is youth-centric where youth, as they transform themselves, also transform the organization, the neighborhood, and the community. In order to accomplish these goals, ruwwad will focus on these three objectives: • Engaging community organizing tactics to identify community constituencies; create a continuous dialogue to negotiate shared interests and values; empower youth to become recognized change agents, • Repositioning content in all programs to focus on critical thinking, creativity & innovation, social responsibility, employability, enhanced mental health, active citizenship and intellectual rigor, • Placing youth as the focus, engaging the youth to develop and operate ruwwad; connect them to resources and experiences to act, mobilize, and reflect on their own life choices and actions. |
