Dardashat (Chat Sessions) Print E-mail

Dardashat is a cultural initiative organized by Ruwwad and run by Samar Dudin, a activist engaged in issues of cultural awareness and diversity. The program brings together all the participants of the Mousab Khorma Youth Empowerment Fund (MKYEF) with the aim of discussing, exploring and engaging in dialogue with regard to who they are and what they seek from their lives. This forum encourages young adults to pose insightful questions about themselves and their true vocation at a critical stage of development in their lives. It is a place where they reassess their values, their daily personal journeys of growth while expanding the boundaries of their identity into new learning paradigms

These informal sessions take  place on Saturday mornings in an interactive atmosphere to help engage the participants in discussions about some of the following themes:

  • Personal values and value clarification.
  • Identity growth and psychosocial development.
  • The value of being proactive – ones circle of influence versus ones circle of concern.
  • Learning from paradigm shifts – reflecting on how ones perception and understanding can suddenly be changed and the lessons learnt.
  •  When do we compromise principles and for what reasons? Reflecting on the mind's power in manipulating our choices to suit our comfort zone versus principles.
  •  The principle of justice – what is it and on what does it revolve.
  •  First things first: what is valuable in time and how to place our priorities while remaining aware of our values.
  •  Keys for life – addressing key concepts from within to give us the power we need..
  •  The strongest in me – searching for the most beautiful, healthy and abundant me, exploring the strength within away from value judgments related to the external definition of power and strength.
  •  Tempered radical – exploring ones ability to push beyond the limits of tradition and family expectations to the undefined risk of being, what boundaries have you broken and where did it get you?

These meetings have created a dynamic interchange between the female and male members of the groups and have allowed the youth to encounter novel situations and circumstances that would have been alien to them in their everyday lives. Consequently, this results in learning and development opportunities which will help prepare them on their life journeys. Participants sometimes choose random topics which are relevant to the times and have debates which often have a profound effect on them especially since many of the guest speakers are experts in the field of their chosen topics.

"Since I started taking part in Dardashat, I discovered a lot of things about myself that I never knew or felt." Faisal

"The way you get to know yourself starts with Dardashat." Noora

"Whenever there is a word, there is joy." Wafa

"Meetings that can be at times wonderful and others painful." Hiba
